"Baby" Falls

This website is being started to keep friends, family and others updated about the baby.

I will start by introducing myself.  I am Amanda.  Aunt Amanda really.  This baby will be my best friends first baby.

My best friend is Kim.  She has tried for 6 1/2 years to have a baby.  She has had many heartbreaking miscarriages as well as PCOS.  She was begining to think that she couldn't carry a baby.

A few months ago her period stopped.  She found out she was pregnant, but this time was a bit confusing.  Apparently it was a miscarriage, but she got pregnant again right away.

An ultrasound was done on December 6th and it gave her the due date of April 24th.  She was 16 weeks.

On January 9, 2007 Kim began having cramps which felt like mentsral cramps so she went into the doctor (being that she was already high risk).  The hospital did an ultrasound, but told her at first that they couldn't find her cervix.  Then later told her she was dialated to almost 3 cm and realeased her.

She is 25 weeks pregnant at this point.

She called her mom who refused to accept the hospitals conclusion and brought her to Bronson Hospital.

I live 5 minutes away from the hospital and was there as quickly as I could get there for support.

The midwife who came in to see Kim in triage told her that she was 25 weeks (there was some question because of the confusing period where a miscarriage could have been and the fact that she is ALREADY producing milk).  The midwife was adamant (and a little rude) about that fact.

The midwife said that she was dialated to 1 and that she was 100% effaced.  They admitted her to the hospital and told her they thought she would be there for about 7 days.

They started her on Mag Sulf (Magnesium Sulfate) to relax her uterus and stop the contractions, along with a steroid to help develop the baby's lungs.

They told her this morning that she would most likely be in the hospital (with her pelvis lifted above her head) until the baby is born.

I will update as I can

I am putting a basket together of various items to keep her busy and to educate her on premature babies.

If you are interested in helping, this is what I am wanting to put in the basket.

-Crossword puzzles
-Mothering Magazines
-Sidelines Magazines (a premature baby publication)
-Books on Premature Babies
-Books/Magazines supporting things like cloth diapering, breast feeding, not vaxinating and not circumcising (these are all her plans, I am not trying to convince, but her family is less than supportive about those decisions and I want her to know she isn't alone).

And perhaps a little bit of money that she could use for eating something besides hospital food.

As the delivery becomes closer I would like to see about putting a basket together full of baby items, if anyone has any to spare.

If you have any other ideas of some things that would help her out, please let me know as I have never had a premie to take care of.

If you have any of these things and would be interested in giving them to help, please email me or PM me.

Thank you friends and family for your support.

Thanks for checking to see how Kim and Issac are doing.  I post regular updates when I am able.
